Bude - in Cornwall near the Devon border
Bude, the area ‘where the coast meets the countryside’ is North Cornwall’s premier resort with breathtaking coastal scenery, much of it designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and its rugged coastline very popular with walkers. Clean, sandy beaches such as Widemouth Bay, Sandymouth, Summerleaze and Crooklets ('Britain’s Bond') are all just a few minutes away. Bude is very near the border with Devon so is within easy reach of Dartmoor and the unique village of Clovelly. Also within a short drive is the world famous Eden Project, and the pretty fishing villages of Boscastle and Port Isaac while a little further down the coast, Padstow is the largest of the north coast harbours.
The cliff tops at Bude are one of the most spectacular sections of the South West Coast Path; a wonderful experience for walkers. For the less athletic the Bude Canal, with flat tow-path walks, marshes, thriving wetland and recreational areas provide excellent access for birdwatchers, walkers and cyclists. Those looking for history will find much to explore. Bude’s maritime museum, canal and unique sea-lock boast the history of the town, along with the battleground at Stratton and the dozens of beautiful churches in the area. Click here for more info.
