Walking the Tamara Coast to Coast Path

Tamara Coast to Coast Path

For those of us in the Wooda family who love to wander the walkways and coast paths of Cornwall, there has been a pretty exciting new unveiling last month. July 2023 saw the introduction to the South-West of the Tamara Coast to Coast Path that runs from Morwenstow, not far from us here at Wooda Farm, to Plymouth, passing the source of the River Tamar at its beginning and following the twists and turns of this great South-West border-river as it meanders through some of the most stunning countryside and picturesque panoramas in the country.

The Tamara Coast to Coast Way is 87 miles and five days’ worth of awe-inspiring routes that can take the hiker in us through this magnificent valley’s rich diversity of history, landscapes and unspoilt natural beauty. For us, here at Wooda Farm Holiday Park, it is yet another awesome reason, to add to the ever-expanding list, to visit Cornwall and another way to explore everything it has to offer.

Wondrous Walks on the Tamara Coast to Coast Way

For the experienced hiker, this trail also links up the north and south coast paths, allowing for those wanting a truly challenging walking experience to traverse the whole of Cornwall uninterrupted. Needless to say, if you’re planning on taking on the complete circuit of Cornwall, or the Kylgh Kernow, you will need a good few weeks of spare time and a great pair of legs and lungs if you’re thinking of undertaking this challenge!

For the less experienced walkers or for those who just want to investigate Cornwall’s unparalleled natural beauty and some of its deep-seated history and heritage, this brand-new path offers a veritable plethora of short walks that enable you to explore a whole host of Cornish wonders. From remnants of its former industrial heritage and iconic landmarks, such as the Royal Albert Bridge, to ancient churches and some of the most beautiful inland scenery this county has to offer. Lorna Sherriff, of the South West Coast Path Association, said the route “provides people with the opportunity to explore and walk through more of the stunning South West landscape to connect with nature and the heritage found in the Tamar Valley”.

Experiencing Nature on the Tamara Coast to Coast Path

Along the Tamara Coast to Coast way you will be amazed at the diversity of landscapes you will encounter, from heather-covered moorland and resplendent riverbanks to ancient woodland, rugged hillsides and lush meadows, enabling you to reconnect with nature and feel a sense of awe that will accompany you with every step.

You might also be treated to meetings and sightings with some of the awesome animals the Tamar Valley is home to. Watch out for birds, such as the Grey Wagtail fishing for insects or the migrating ospreys, as well as rarer visitors like herons, avocets, spoonbills, egrets, oyster-catchers, peregrines, kingfishers, kestrels, hen-harriers and, snowy and barn owls around dusk. You might be lucky enough to encounter an otter on your way or even a deer or two, provided you aren’t too giddy with excitement at the adventure you’re on and making too many oohs and ahhs along the way!
